Pachira (Water Chestnut or Money Tree)
Pachira (Water Chestnut or Money Tree)
Water Chestnuts love bright but indirect sunlight. Avoid direct light as this is likely to scorch it's delicate leaves. These plants do quite well under florescent lighting to make fantastic office plants!
Surprisingly, the Water Chestnut doesn't require alot of watering as they actually retain much of the water in it's swollen stems/trunks. Wait for the soil to dry out completely before rewatering.
Pachira's are humidity lovers despite minimal watering. Keeping it's leaves misted is great and they make ideal bathroom and kitchen plants.
Indoor temperatures between 12-24°C are suitable. They can be very adaptable to temperature ranges.
During spring and summer, feed once a month with a general houseplant food. No feeding is necessary during the winter when plant growth naturally slows.
The Pachira is considered pet-safe.
